Security On-board
Our core Security team and its sister team, XWT, were in the process of merging into a single unified organization. A researcher and I were assigned to support this transition by assisting with feature development, identifying redundancies between the two teams, and helping establish a shared understanding of the evolving security space. One of our key objectives was to create a unified security administrator persona that both teams could align around.
Overview
The initial task was to create a visual map outlining the reporting structures of both teams, their primary focus areas, and the technologies they had each worked with. This helped identify where Canvas components could be introduced and revealed opportunities for future system contributions or component rebuilds.

Process
Problem
To unify the OMSSEC and UPC teams, I began by mapping their reporting structures, focus areas, and technologies. This provided visibility into overlaps and gaps between both teams, guiding where Canvas components could be introduced and future opportunities for system contributions or rebuilds.
- Created a detailed visual map outlining both teams’ org structures, tech stacks, and dependencies.
- Identified redundant development efforts and opportunities for shared frameworks.
- Unified both teams around a single persona with aligned priorities for roadmap planning.
- Established a scalable Figma repository enabling ongoing design work even without active UX support.
Approach
To drive alignment and surface shared priorities, I partnered with our researcher to facilitate a collaborative full-day workshop. The session allowed both teams to articulate pain points, define success metrics, and co-create a persona that continues to guide design and engineering decisions.
- Facilitated a joint workshop bringing OMSSEC and XWT stakeholders together.
- Synthesized research findings into a shared, data-informed persona.
- Mapped overlapping features such as Security Home, MFA, and Tenant Security to streamline workstreams.
- Consolidated outcomes into new, unified features — Trusted Devices, Security Hub, Purge PII Data, and Implementer Access.
